Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide, or Dinitrogen Monoxide, is also known as laughing gas. Dinitrogen Monoxide is an inhalation anesthetic class drug used for general anesthesia in surgery and for analgesics, sedation and anxiolytics in dental procedures.

Dinitrogen Monoxide is given with ventilator to treat respiratory failure in newborns, especially those born prematurely. Dinitrogen Oxide functions to dilate blood vessels in the lungs, so that newborns can get more oxygen. Nitrous oxide is only given in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
