The journey began when NV WA Hoek Machine en Zuurstof from the Netherlands established the first oxygen plant in Jakarta. The presence of this plant laid the initial foundation for the gas industry in Indonesia, which was later continued with the establishment of additional plants in Surabaya and Bandung.

1916

1924
NV Javasche Koelzoor established a CO₂ plant in Surabaya. This moment marked the growing industrial demand for an increasingly diverse range of gases.

1958
After Indonesia’s independence, both companies were nationalized and became PN Zatas and PN Asam Arang. This history represents an important chapter in the nation’s journey, when strategic industrial assets were returned to state ownership.

1971
Both companies were merged into PT Aneka Gas Industri (Persero) under the Ministry of Industry. From this point, the foundation of Samator Indo Gas was established, carrying forward the spirit of serving the nation’s industrial gas needs.

1996
A new era began with the entry of Messer Griesheim GmbH (Germany) and PT Tira Austenite as shareholders. The company’s status transitioned to a Foreign Investment Company (PMA), paving the way for the transfer of global technology and expertise.

2004
A significant milestone was reached when the Harsono family acquired the shares of PT Tira Austenite. The company reverted to the status of a Domestic Investment Company (PMDN). Under the new leadership, the company experienced rapid growth, expanding from 11 plants in 2003 to 41 plants in 2015.

2016
The company was officially listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). This milestone strengthened the foundation for long-term growth, accompanied by the expansion of its filling station network and the acquisition of strategic assets.

2019
The network continued to expand, with 44 plants and 104 filling stations across 26 provinces. At that time, PT Aneka Gas Industri had truly become the largest industrial gas provider in Indonesia.

2020
Amid the challenges of the global pandemic, the company received the Resilience in Pandemic award from Bisnis Indonesia as well as the Industry Marketing Special Mention from Marketeers. These awards symbolize the company’s resilience and commitment to serving its customers, even in difficult times.

2021
A year of profound significance. Arief Harsono, the founder of Samator Group, was honored with the Immortal Marketing Award 2021 in recognition of his dedication and wise leadership. At the same time, the company expanded its operations to 54 plants and 106 filling stations across 28 provinces.

2022
A strategic step was taken by changing the name from PT Aneka Gas Industri Tbk to PT Samator Indo Gas Tbk, strengthening the company’s identity as part of the Samator Group.

2023
The company welcomed CVC Asia V as a strategic investment partner, creating opportunities for global knowledge transfer and best practices. This year was also marked by the inauguration of a filling station in North Kalimantan (the 29th province), the renovation of facilities in Pekanbaru and Morowali, as well as the operation of an Air Separation Plant in Batang, a Green Hydrogen Plant in Batam, and an Acetylene Plant in Sofifi, a testament to the company’s commitment to continuous innovation toward a greener and more sustainable future.
